“Trail Running University!A Mountain Journey Covering the Highest Peaks of All 47 Prefectures” is a blog (media) that primarily covers impressions of participating in competitions and the use of equipment.

The blogger (Miyama Souki) climbed mountains in all 47 prefectures while sleeping in his car, and saw Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains and the 100 Greatest Mountains in Japan along the way.

Who is Miyama Souki?

The blogger (Miyama Souki) started running in 2012 and is now an ultra-trail runner.

I’m a tail-ender (a trail runner who runs at the back of the pack, though) (lol)

Miyama Souki’s titles (qualifications/tweets):

  • Ultra trail runner
  • Blogger/YouTuber
  • Social Insurance Labor Consultant
  • Financial Planner Level 2 Technician

The origins of Miyama Souki

Tokyo Marathon 2023

The Trail Running University blogger (Miyama Souki) as a child.

During elementary school, he ran as a sprinter, limited to the 100m.

I ran the 50m in the 8-second range in fourth grade and the 6-second range in sixth grade.

I always placed first at school sports days and participated in class and district relays.

I represented my elementary school as the anchor in the 400m relay. However, winning without any effort was boring.

The marathon, which involves long distances, was my second least favorite event (swimming was my number one).

There were club activities in middle and high school, but I didn’t particularly participate.

I’m not interested in running, so I didn’t join the track and field club. I didn’t do much sports in college either.

The more I move, the weaker my body becomes (I’m an indoor person who loves reading).

Ultra-trail runner training methods! 100km mountain training.

Strengthening trail running climbs (physical strength)! Training at the gym.
Miyama Souki

At first, even running 300m was difficult. Recently, I completed a 106km trail running event (FTR100).

Midori (Trainee)

It’s fascinating that a 100m sprinter can run 100km in the mountains! All I have to do now is complete a 100-mile race.

Even after entering the workforce, I couldn’t find a sport I could devote my life to.

Taekwondo and tennis didn’t suit me, so I started searching for a sport I could devote my life to.

Then, I learned about the Tokyo Marathon on the TV news.

At the time, I had no intention of becoming a runner.

A few years later, in May 2012, the Sendai International Half Marathon was opened to the general public.

After seeing the event broadcast on TV,

I decided to become a runner. After struggling, I made the transition from sprinting to long-distance running.

My first 10km run took me 1 hour and 45 minutes. (The distance and time are not exact.)

Encounter with trail running

仙台泉ヶ岳トレイルランで後送担当ボランティアしたら驚愕の事実が!

While searching for my first marathon to participate in, I discovered the Sendai Izumigatake Trail Run.

As the timing was perfect for me, I entered immediately.

I ran the 9km mountain trail in exhilaration and completed the course safely.

This was my first marathon (trail run).

I enjoyed it so much that I decided to devote my life to trail running. (^^♪

I’m often asked, “Did you go from being a road runner to a trail runner?”

I answer, “I’ve been a trail runner from the beginning.” (^^)v

I’m good at running in the mountains, but I hate running on paved roads (I’m not good at climbing mountains, but I excel at descending).

Eliminate knee and calf pain with marathon tights! Reduce muscle fatigue.

Wacoal CW-X sports tights have compression to improve posture and reduce fatigue.

The following year, I completed the Sendai International Half Marathon, my original goal.

Despite barely being able to run 10km, I decided to run 20km in preparation for the Sendai International Half Marathon.

This caused me to develop iliotibial band syndrome (runner’s knee).

I continued to push myself and was unable to run for about 10 months.

Although my iliotibial band syndrome never recovered, I successfully completed the Sendai International Half Marathon.

I then discovered the Hasetsune Cup and the Fuji 100 Mile.

Improve your running ability with strength training! Trail runners can strengthen their legs and hips with machines.

Training How much practice do beginners need for trail running? Train in the countryside and strength training.

Participate in any trail running competitions that interest you (and then retire).

I trained by running alone around my house and in the mountains.

Because I was self-taught, I often had leg and back injuries, but I was able to increase my running distance.

Completed 40km and 50km races in 2014. Completed the 70km Hasetsune Cup in 2015.

Entered the Fuji 100 Mile (at the time STY) in 2018, but crashed in the Tenshi Mountains.

Completed 100km trail runs in 2021 and 2022.

I’ll run my first 100km trail run in 2023. I attempted the 100 Mile, but I was completely helpless.

My training continues, aiming to complete the Fuji 100 Mile and UTMB. I’m going to bring home a finisher’s vest!

What are the odds for the Fuji 100 Mile? I entered using points from the qualifying race.

Ultra-trail runner training methods! Training for a 100km mountain run.

The road to the Fuji 100 Mile! How to conquer the course, how to train, and what to bring to complete the race.

Previous sports history (from sprinter to ultra-trail runner)

I’m a 100m sprinter, and I’m also a swimmer and long-distance runner.

I’m not good at running. Because I was so weak, I joined the judo club in junior high.

I didn’t find it rewarding, so I spent half my time going home after school.

After entering the workforce, I attended taekwondo and karate dojos.

Even after achieving my first dan, my frail body remained.

After that, I attended tennis school, but I still didn’t feel fulfilled.

I eventually made trail running my lifelong sport.

I’ve also started using road bikes as part of my training.
